Hi everyone! Kicking off a week of guest posts is my mom! I was worried she was going to share more embarrassing childhood stories with the Blogosphere. Since it’s my birthday, she went the weepy route. I hope you enjoy her post. She’s a blogger, too. If we try really hard, we might be able to get her to start blogging more regularly. I’m off to celebrate my birthday!
It was a hot Sunday morning, I woke up early not feeling so fine, so I went back to bed and tried, unsuccessfully to go back to sleep. Ended up tossing & turning mostly. Eventually got up, not sure what to do.
My sister stopped by at some point, bringing me a big old bag of M&M’s! Yum! One of my favorites. So we sat and dined a while on the scrumptious little treats, while sipping refreshing homemade iced tea. Still not feeling myself, but enjoying the “meal”.
A bit later, I decided to call Mom. Complained a bit and described my discomfort. She spoke calmly and very clearly stated, “Call the doctor, you’re in labor.” Darn! I knew that. I just didn’t want to admit it, or have anyone else tell me that. So what if my due date was the 6th and it was now the 15th! I was scared! Suddenly, having a baby wasn’t something I wanted to do! I had always been raised to listen to my mother, so I called that doctor, and was told to report to the hospital.
After a long, extremely uncomfortable day….to make a long story short, the doctors decided to do a c-section. As I was being wheeled in, the nurses, made a little small talk with me, asking me questions, including the names I had picked out.
I was knocked out for the first part of the procedure, but they brought me back to consciousness just before they removed the baby. I remember I kept saying….”what is it…what is it?” Finally, someone said, “It’s a Jennifer”. It was July 15, 1984, I still get weepy remembering that moment.
Happy Birthday Baby Girl!
